Taxpayer Information



TAXPAYER INFORMATION

You should remain at the window and receive a receipt for your payment
from the cashier.   For faster service, please bring your entire tax bill with
you for processing.

The tax office will verify if there are any outstanding taxes due for the
taxpayer. If not, we will process the bills as presented for payment.  
There is a computer available for you to lookup tax information.

Checks must be payable to the Town of Willington (the tax office has a
stamp if needed) or T.O.W.  Third party checks cannot be accepted.
Checks must be for the correct amount.

        As of Nov. 1st.,  2008, there is a $20.00 fee for returned checks.  Additional interest may also be accessed, when applicable.  Redemption must be in cash, cashier’s check or money order.

1-800-272-9829-or www.officialpayments.com.  Willington Jurisdiction code
is #1707.

In accordance with Conn. General Statute #12-146, interest is charged at
the rate of 18% per year, 1 1/2% per month beginning from the due date of
the tax, on all late payments - minimum $2.00.

        As the owner of taxable property, YOU are responsible to see that taxes are paid when due.  Failure to have received a tax bill does not exempt you from payment of taxes and interest charges and collection costs that accrue.
Conn. General Statute #12-130, #12-146.  NO EXCEPTIONS.

ALL outstanding motor vehicle taxes and interest charges must be paid in
full in order to receive a registration release for DMV.  Conn. General
Statute #14-33.  This includes any tax currently due (not delinquent) to the
Town.  NO EXCEPTIONS.

Past due motor vehicle taxes must be paid in cash, cashier’s check or
money order for immediate DMV clearance.  For payments made by
personal or business check, clearance will be given after ten (10) business
days.  The same applies for tax payments made to a collection agency,
constable or sheriff.

Note that you are responsible for maintaining your own tax information for
income tax purposes.

The Revenue office may require a written request for tax payment
information.  There is a computer at the Tax Office that you can come in
and use to get personal information.
