At the Town Meeting last night (11/2/17), I explained the background of the Transfer Station Permit Fee proposal and then recommended a “no” vote given the fact that the Governor signed the state budget on Tuesday. It passed unanimously. The Transfer Station will continue to be “free” to Willington residents (with the exception of special fees for tires/mattresses/refrigerators/etc.) and funded by Willington taxpayers.
A few people made some suggestions after the meeting that I will direct to our Solid Waste Advisory Committee, which actually has several vacant seats. If you have an interest in the Transfer Station operations and are interested in serving on this committee, please contact the Selectmen’s Office at 860-487-3100.
Thank you. It was great to see so many citizens participate in the Town Meeting last night and I hope that the enthusiasm for our small town and our traditions continues!
