If you are seeking a credit on your motor vehicle tax bill from the TOWN OF WILLINGTON, the following forms of proof are accepted by the Assessor for the issuance of a correction to the grand list.  Please be aware that tax bills that come out in July are based on Department of Motor Vehicles records of ownership as of October 1st of the prior year.

The documentation must be dated and have the VIN# and all the corroborating information.

UNREGISTERED VEHICLES STILL OWNED AND LOCATED IN WILLINGTON WILL REMAIN ON THE GRAND LIST.

In addition to a plate receipt from the DMV you must submit one of the following:

  • A copy of the bill of sale.
  • A copy of the transfer of title (ie receipt from a junkyard, trade-in paperwork, receipt of donation).
  • A copy of the original registration issued to the person to whom you sold the vehicle.
  • A copy of the registration showing the date the vehicle was registered outside the State of Connecticut.
  • Documentation from an insurance company, (ie payment for a stolen vehicle, payment for a totaled vehicle, cancellation of policy coverage due to sale of vehicle).
The assessor’s office may require a combination of additional information or verification of the preceding items, as necessary, for the removal or crediting of a motor vehicle assessment.
